News Articles 2006-2007:

2006-2007: WAVM Signs Off:
After an exciting and challenging year at WAVM, the waves have stopped and the mics have gone silent. WAVM has officially ended its 2006-2007 broadcast season. The station will remain open certain hours until the closure of school and will then only be open select days during the summer. A huge thank you to the parents, friends, and members who helped make this year and all its events (from the Beacon Santa Telethon, to the Father Daughter Dance) a huge success. Planning for next year has already begun and raffle tickets sales will begin soon! See you next year!

March 19th- 23rd is Community Broadcast Week!
Tune in to 91.7FM all week long from March 19th to March 23rd as members of the community take over the airwaves in place of our regularly scheduled radio shows. Once a year, everyone from policemen, to parents, to teachers don the headphones and microphones and grace the airwaves with their presence. These members of the community choose everything about the show from its subject matter, to commentary, to music. Assisted by student technicians, our volunteers get to express themselves through radio and share what is on their minds to all of our listeners.

Good News for WAVM in the FCC Battle
There is good news for WAVM regarding its recent battle with the FCC.  Not only has WAVM been able to renew its broadcasting license, but the FCC and all other parties involved have come to an agreement.  This will allow WAVM to increase its broadcasting power from 10 to 250 watts, and still share its partnership with WUMB UMass of Boston.  In addition, Living Proof Inc. of California will be adjusting its frequency as to not interfere with 91.7FM.  WAVM would like to thank all of those who gave support during the entire ordeal.

Webcast Updates
Perhaps the most important update to the WAVM web site is the revamp of the online web cast. Prior to now one was required to download Real Player to listen or view WAVM online. The quality was often poor and slow. In addition, only a maximum of ten users were allowed to tune in at once. Now, our web cast can be viewed or listened to be an infinite number of users. The quality is better, and much faster. Best of all, you can tune in from virtually any program including Windows Media Player, iTunes, and WinAmp to name a few.

Website Re-vamp
After a long period of lacking in updates and new content, the WAVM web site has been totally re-vamped. Some of the new features which are easily visible are a new look, easier navigation from the top of your screen, and several new features and added pages. By hovering over each category above, one can view several subcategories to visit. You will also notice the "Now Playing" area on the home page. This is a constantly-updating snapshot of what is being broadcast over WAVM's TV-8. Now you can get a glimpse of what is playing or being announced at all times of the day without having to ever turn on your television.
