The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Mags...

During one of the Beacon Santa Telethons, Mags and former-student Mark Minasian (Class of 1979) had a bright idea to drum up some local support. Taking the station's PA system, they propped two speakers in the trunk of Mags' car and cruised about town playing Mr. Microphone.

For a couple hours they drove all over town, bellowing for people to tune into Telethon. They were having fun; so much fun in fact, that Mags started making fun of Mark Minasian when he couldn't say, "Come see the Cartoon Characters" Soon they were both laughing so hard, that hardly anyone could make sense of what they were saying. (They also pulled a David Letterman by going through the McDonald's drive-thru, using the PA to place an order.)

After a couple hours, it happened that they stumbled upon someone they knew and used the PA to say, "Hi, Mr. Pileeki!" However, Mr. Pileeki never looked their way. Mags and Minasian couldn't understand why not; the speakers were turned up so high that they were blasting themselves out too. It was then that Mags and Mark realized the trunk had closed, probably when they had hit a bump. With the trunk closed, that's why they were blasting themselves with the sound. All the while, according to Mags, "We were driving around like two idiots, who couldn't pronounce Cartoon Characters!"
